Research & Development
Innovation has been at the heart of our company since its beginning. Whether it’s about convenience, health or pleasure, our R&D team creates trustworthy products, systems and services that contribute to improving the quality of peoples’ lives.
Our R&D team drives projects that go from developing packaging and equipment, to designing food and beverages for the pilot of Solar Impulse, a world-first attempt to circumnavigate the globe in a solar powered aircraft; working with Imperial College London to improve nutrition, or producing a tiny bouillon cube that tackles iron deficiency.
Clearly, there’s a huge range of projects for scientists, engineers, nutritionists, food technologist, designers, regulatory specialists and consumer care representatives to get involved in.
Our R&D network is the largest in the food industry with 23?R&D Centres, 3,900 scientists and researchers working across the world. You can join us in different areas:
Nestlé Product Technology Centres:?The Product Technology Centres (PTCs) provide technical development expertise for our product, manufacturing and packaging processes. Each is aligned with a particular business and certain product categories – as such, it acts as a global hub. For instance, the Switzerland PTC offers worldwide know-how on coffee, beverages, cereals, dairy and nutritional products.
Nestlé Application Groups:?Attached to individual Nestlé factories, our Application Groups make sure our products reflect local tastes. They also work with PTCs to test scientific applications. Here, you’ll gain broad exposure to everything from petcare with Purina, to chocolate with KitKat.
Fundamental research centers: Nestlé Research Center provides the scientific knowledge and research base for our product renovation and innovation. The site centralizes our cross-category research within four institutes covering: Food Safety and Analytical Sciences, Health Sciences, Material Sciences and Packaging Sciences. The Clinical Development Unit provides medical expertise and manages clinical trials for the company, worldwide.
My job exposes me to new technologies and skills. Building knowledge for Nestlé while I improve my own technical skills is a 'win-win' situation. I can lead other technical experts and learn from them.Joany
